The Berchtesgaden National Park has had the great pleasure of hosting the 23rd Edition of the Danilo Re Memorial. This important event has been a good start to the 40th anniversary celebration of the National Park. This annual Alpine Protected Areas winter meeting constitutes not only a sports competition but also has highly symbolic relevance for the promotion of nature protection and conservation. The Memorial provides a unique opportunity to all those working for the Alpine Protected Areas to get acquainted with one other and above all to share common objectives, values and principles. Among more than 200 international participants, we also had the honour of welcoming a team from the Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment.
I would like to thank all the participants and all the people involved in the organisation and logistics, in particular the mayors of Berchtesgaden and Ramsau and all the team of the National Park.
We officially hand over the baton to our French colleagues of ASTERS who will be in charge of the organisation of the 24th Memorial at the municipality of Les Contamine Montjoie.
Dr. Roland Baier, Berchtesgaden National Park Director
