Alain MORAND, Mercantour National Park, Head of the Research Service for Cultural and Natural Heritage Sites

I have worked on environmental and biodiversity issues for almost 20 years (first for my PhD, then as a university lecturer and researcher, then a consultant and scientific expert for various different protected areas). I have always felt that not only is it rewarding to work at several levels, but it is actually essential when dealing with research, management, species and habitat conservation issues.

Bringing together ideas and cultures in order to gain real understanding, sometimes through the very difficulties associated with communicating in your partners' languages, is a good reason for creating a lasting network of stakeholders and skills.

ALPARC has facilitated this kind of meeting and encouraged cross-pollination through the various programmes that it has organised and managed. [...]

The Econnect programme was the result of a number of useful meetings involving the two parks and the friendly, competent ALPARC team. It has opened up some fantastic opportunities for cross-border and European cooperation both now and in the future [...]. I can only hope that the network will continue and continue to grow.
