At the heart of Europe
the Alps are a biogeographical region extending over approximately 190,000 km² in the centre of Europe. Mont Blanc is the highest point, at 4,810 m above sea level.
The Alps are extremely diverse in terms of biology, landscapes, languages and cultures. The mountain range is also one of the world's main tourist region: around 120 million tourist visit the Alpes every year with only 14 million inhabitants.
